Father - Son Relationship {A Slightely Twisted Story}

To me the Father - Son relationship is the most complicated and the least communicating relationship among all; very limited and formal. Mostly the mother - daughter relationship is considered to be the deepest, closest and absolutely communicative ones; we all know this and appreciate. On the contrary, the father-son relationship can be taken as a very good example of no, limited or breakdown/failure in communication with a lots of noise/barriers in the communication process. All of us share a very different kind of relationship with our parents. Which is mostly noticed by our friends. As most of the time they keep comparing their with ours. If you go for a movie and tell the same to your father as carelessly/seriously as if you are going to the toilet/library and when your father gives a positive sign with a youthful gesture; friends say "your dad is really super koooool man !!!" Of course our father is loving, caring and concern about us but certainly he hides his absolute emotion; the real ones and the heartiest ones from us; we also do the same. We also hesitate a bit to share something with our father. I do not have any statistical figure to prove these; but this is what I strongly believe in, earlier researches had proved this, so I need not. I am not digging deep in to the theory of evolution, growth and stages  of the child, the father and their relationship. Everyone knows it very well... don't you ??? We all have experienced it. I am about to share a real life story...

The story is about a boy, who was around 26 years when he narrated this story to me. This is the age where we disapprove, disagree, register opposition, think that the father is old fashioned, outdated, there is a generation gap and father thinks like grand father's grand father etc or gradually start doing so... is n't it (I am talking about those situations where we perceive that the father is being rude and over reacting as we do not find any mistake/ fault with us)!!! Don't tell me that, it is a super hypothetical situation and you have never faced such a situation, where you have ever disagreed with your father and subconsciously raised your voice against him. Let's be truthful at least to ourselves. If you still disagree... then please continue reading; this case is an exception !!!

The boy has merely started all these only in his thoughts/mind (the infant stage of challenging the supremacy of his father). Mostly he keeps quite; as the father sometimes holds him responsible for almost all such things where the boy has least say, the boy resists through a long silence.

I am so sure and able to write all these because the Son is a very dear friend of mine and I observe... these are his feelings, once he told me after a heavy dose of Bacardi - Apple. I do not know why after taking alcohol most of us either laugh... be wild... shout in English/vulgar language... do crazy things or we just start sharing the most deepest and unexplored emotions. But finally we mess-up as we loose control on our emotions. The boy is very close to me. We often meet, sit and discuss about all most everything. I do not know, what I have with the boy that brings me back to him at the end of everything. I am not GAY though.
Once he narrated the following story:

Those days the boy has recently shifted to bhubaneswar and started living with his father after a long time. As such the boy hardly maintains the minimum balance in his bank account. His new assignment called for a laptop. With zero savings (even after years of doing job) he tried to get a laptop on EMI. Those were the days when the business world was planning to start over after recession. He could not arrange the money... so far he has never told his father about his new requirement. In the dew course they had a new vehicle... all in their family suggested to get a unique number for their new vehicle. The boy approached me as My Father was in RTO, BBSR at that time. But, something had happened for which they could not get the desired no. for their new vehicle.

As they did not get the choice no. the father told the son "Let us book the number in advance by paying 10,000 rupees?"
Boy: Bapa (father) we are not that rich to pay 10,000 rupees to get that number.
Father: But, this was also the no. of our home... it could...
Boy: No bapa... its not at all feasible... I think it will be a complete waste of money !!!
Father: Then which no. shall be suitable for the vehicle?
Boy: Whatever you feel like or decide... but definitely I am not in favour of  paying 10,000 rupees for that particular number. I know you do not have much money now... but still if you want then Get a LAPTOP for me...

This was the first time when the son had actually stated his latent need.
After a few days, the father once asked the boy, "what about the laptop? Is it really required?"
Boy: y....e....shhhhhhhhh
Father: Ok, then let's go for the best one... I will give you the money. How much you want?
Boy: (Pause) hmmmmmmmm... y....e....hheessshh... Its around 68,500 rupees... I saw on the company website... the dealer/retail price must be lesser... I am sure...
Father: Ok then... I will give you 70,000 but make sure you get the latest and the best one... is this your final budget... or you need some more...
Boy: Its more than enough Bapa...

Now, the boy has a new laptop; Brand - Apple, Colour - White. But the Story Starts NOW, which I really want to share with you... the above were just starters... ! ! !

One day when the boy came home, he saw his laptop case is opened and his father is playing game on it. At that moment there was a sound of rain... the father rushed to cover his age old scooter... in the dew course he almost threw the laptop on the couch... the boy was watching his brand new laptop being thrown... after sometime the father returned to his previous place to the laptop... started playing again... the boy was seating besides him.

Couple of minutes later... the boy was still looking at the laptop and thinking why people do useless things like playing silly games on lappy... and when is it going to end so that he could free his laptop from the careless hands of his father... as the boy thought he is more knowledgeable than his father and knows much more than his father... (refer: paragraph 3, first three lines for his exact thoughts and feelings at that particular moment).

God was roaming around some where nearby the father and son ! ! !
Being God, he played the master card... intensified the whole situation...

The father took a bottle of water and started drinking... few drops from the water bottle fell on the keyboard of the laptop... when the boy saw this... he was simply out of control... could not hide his disapproval and protest... he then shouted...  what the hell you are doing father... you do not know anything... you know nothing about the computer... still then you dared to open my laptop case in my absence and playing silly games... why you touch all such sophisticated devices without knowing how to handle them? Don't you know its a new laptop from a premium brand... what if something goes wrong? Don't you know I have many important documents in the hard disk... do you know even, what is a hard disk? but still you dare to use my laptop in my absence, through it around, pour water on it... you know nothing... why at all you touch my stuff ?...

The boy scolded the father like anything... even the boss of a sales manager would not screw his subordinate in such a manner. The father was speechlessness. Almost cried. But the boy did not stop there...

You are middle class and will remain middle class for rest of your life... you know nothing... you are the perfect example of a BIG FAILURE... you have achieved nothing in your life... you have given us nothing... you are simply a looser... a big looser, a great, grand... gigantic looser in fact. Have you ever heard about Apple computers? You have no manners...

The boy could not speak more... I said him to stop narrating any further. He then burst into tears... cried loudly... loud enough to cater attention of the neighborhood. He was drunk... I felt like slapping my dear friend thousand times and kicking him every where till he dies because his narration was powerful enough to communicate me the entire situation. At that particular moment I hated my dear friend like I have never hated anyone so passionately ever in my life... He was crying out loud though...

The remaining  part of the story will be posted some other time...
