Abstract
Natural disasters cannot be
stopped but we can minimize the impact of any kind of disaster with pro-active,
systematic planning, accurate forecasting, strategic execution and readiness.
India’s geographic and climatic conditions are unique which is prone to floods,
droughts, cyclones, earthquakes and landslides; recently Tsunami is added to
the list. This nation has witnessed so much disaster but it seems as if we are
accustomed to it and learnt literally nothing to counter it. These devastations
have resulted in massive loss of life, economy and society at large.
This study was undertaken with
the intention to access the impact of natural disasters. This article also
critically examines the preparedness of India to combat such disasters.
Moreover a strategic approach is formulated and proposed in this paper after in-depth
brainstorming and research. The contribution of this research paper is to
provide a road map for confronting natural disasters with proactive
preparedness.
